Lilly Visits Community Organization Dedicated to Assisting Persons with Developmental Disabilities

OAK PARK, Ill. – Earlier today, state Rep. Camille Lilly, D-Chicago, visited the UCP Seguin organization to tour the facility and highlight the work they perform with individuals with developmental disabilities every day.

“It is truly heartwarming to see the passion of this group dedicate themselves to ensuring trust and compassion for those who are in need,” said Lilly. “Organizations that do work to assist individuals with developmental disabilities have had an extremely tough year, and I want to make sure I am doing all that I can to avoid it from happening again.”

UCP Seguin, or United Cerebral Palsy Seguin of Greater Chicago, formed in July of 2013 when Seguin Services Inc. merged with United Cerebral Palsy Association of Greater Chicago to continue its deliverance of social service programs aimed at assisting people with developmental disabilities find employment and integration into their communities. Like many other human service related organizations, Lilly has met with the board to discuss their needs and goals and also invited UCP Seguin to her Human Services Conference in August. This event will offer other local agencies the opportunity to connect and attempt to deliver more efficient services to those in need. During the meeting, the recent stopgap budget recently enacted was discussed to elaborate on the funding that would be available for education and human services.

“While my work in Springfield to construct a fair and balanced budget will continue, it is important for us elected officials to remember the great work our community organizations do every single day,” added Lilly. “I think my colleagues would agree with me that our local providers deserve significant praise for their continued efforts, especially for managing such a difficult year.”
