CHICAGO – In response to massive proposed changes to national health care, and the negative impact it will have on families in the community, state Rep. Melissa Conyears-Ervin, D-Chicago, is fighting against President Trump’s radical changes that will leave families to fend for themselves.
“Families in our community will suffer if Trumpcare becomes law because it slashes benefits for low and middle income Americans in order to give tax breaks to millionaires and billionaires,” Conyears-Ervin said. “That is why I strongly oppose those changes, and I have passed legislation that would protect our families by guaranteeing care for people with preexisting conditions.”
Conyears-Ervin’s House Bill 2959 protects millions of Illinoisans who have preexisting conditions by requiring Illinois insurance companies to cover preexisting conditions. The law takes preventative steps to defend at-risk Illinoisans in the case that Trumpcare is signed into law and eliminates this coverage. The bill passed both the House and the Senate and is awaiting action by Gov. Rauner.
“Our families deserve the peace of mind knowing that if they or a loved one gets sick, they will have the medical coverage they need,” Conyears-Ervin said. “No family should be bankrupted because a loved one gets sick. I call on the governor to pass this legislation and to protect our hard working families.”
