SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Camille Lilly, D-Oak Park, is standing with millions of Americans by sponsoring legislation which states the Illinois House of Representatives opposition to President Trump’s American Health Care Act.
“Illinoisans and their health must be put before big corporations and insurance companies,” Lilly said. “Healthcare should provide the necessary coverage and peace of mind for everyone, regardless of a pre-existing condition. There are too many instances of citizens having to choose whether or not they will get their monthly prescriptions or buy food to feed their families. This is unacceptable. We have a responsibility to ensure that all Americans receive affordable healthcare regardless of any current condition they may have.”
Lilly is sponsoring House Resolution 445 to urge President Trump and his allies to reconsider making detrimental changes to the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Trumpcare will repeal the most important parts of the ACA, such as coverage for pre-existing coverage, which will negatively affect approximately 24 million residents throughout the United States. Lilly believes that children, seniors, veterans and those with pre-existing conditions should not be forced to sacrifice their livelihood to afford health insurance.
“Donald Trump and his extreme allies are trying to strip millions of Americans of affordable healthcare,” Lilly said. “Under no circumstances should the president put businesses before people. Providing Americans with healthcare and affordable insurance is not something that should be up for debate. I will continue to fight to ensure that the most vulnerable citizens have a voice and are protected.”
Lilly is a member of the House Appropriations – Human Services Committee, where members voted on House Resolution 445. It passed out of committee, and is now waiting to be heard on the House floor.
Lilly represents the 78th District, which includes parts of Chicago, Oak Park, Elmwood Park, River Grove, Franklin Park, and Melrose Park.
