CHICAGO – State Rep. Melissa Conyears-Ervin, D-Chicago, issued the following statement after progress was made to end Gov. Bruce Rauner’s two-year long budget stalemate:
“As a freshman legislator, I came into the General Assembly hopeful that my colleagues on the other side of the aisle would be able to work with House Democrats to develop a balanced budget that funds the vital services that seniors, children and people with disabilities rely upon to survive. Today, I continue to remain hopeful after many of my colleagues and I demonstrated that we can put partisan politics aside for the people of Illinois.
“While progress has been made, there is still much work that needs to be done before we can go home. I hope that we can continue to work together and that the governor does not interfere in a manner that halts negotiations. The only way we can lift up Illinois’ families is by compromising, and I am committed to working with all of my colleagues to protect the people of Illinois.”
